Earlier this month we had 10 team members attend the Nutanix .NEXT Conference in Chicago, IL May 9th – 10th, 2023. This was the first in-person conference for partners and customers to attend since 2019. 

Key Takeaways from the Nutanix .NEXT Conference: 

Nutanix is making a simple promise to partners: We can run every type of workload in every type of environment, and you can too. 

• Unified hybrid multi-cloud future. Multi-cloud is here to stay and Project Beacon is focusing on giving customers the ability to pick up and move workloads, applications—and the compute and storage that support those applications—with a single click. 
• Centralized visibility and reporting.  Nutanix Central, is an orchestration layer that provides visibility and control across all of a customer’s environment. 

Nutanix unveiled a series of new product offerings and an ambitious vision to help customers streamline their operations across distributed environments and accelerate the deployment of modern applications.

Nutanix Central 

Nutanix Central is a cloud-delivered (SaaS based) solution providing a single console for visibility, monitoring, and management across public cloud, on-premises, hosted, or edge infrastructure. This is aimed at simplifying the management of apps and related data services across multi-cloud environments. Nutanix Central acts as a single-pane-of-glass for all Prism Central instances and related services (Unified Storage, Database Services, etc.), for both on-prem, cloud, and MSP environments. 

The Nutanix Central dashboard provides customers with a quick overview of the state of each domain with access to domain and cluster-level metrics, which includes capacity utilization and alert summary statistics. This functionality will also enable seamless navigation to individual domains, based on individual user role-based access control (RBAC), across all registered domains. 

Nutanix Central will be available to customers as part of their Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure (NCI) license. 

Project Beacon  

With Project Beacon, Nutanix aims to provide data-centric Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) services that can be utilized anywhere (Nutanix on-prem infrastructure, NC2, or in the native public cloud). 

It’s goal is to decouple applications and their data from the underlying infrastructure, allowing applications to run across diverse environments. As an initial step, Nutanix plans to broaden the capabilities of its Nutanix Database Service to the public cloud as a managed service. This offers the same automation and management experience already available on Nutanix Cloud Infrastructure.

This includes delivering these PaaS data services as fully managed services – meaning Nutanix, not the customer, is responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and securing the services – running on the customer’s choice of Nutanix Cloud Platform, Amazon EC2, and/or Microsoft Azure Virtual Machines. All of this is delivered through a single API and Console. 

Nutanix Cloud Platform 

Additionally, Nutanix announced new capabilities in the Nutanix Cloud Platform that enable higher performant and more secure applications and data, all managed through Nutanix Central. These enhancements include optimized database performance with a reduced total cost of ownership, as well as simplified networking and micro-segmentation capabilities across customer, partner, and hyperscaler-owned networks. 

In Summary 

These new products and capabilities from Nutanix will help the company deliver a seamless hybrid multicloud experience to customers, offer consistent management across endpoints, enable customers to run applications and data anywhere and provide a comprehensive set of data-centric platform services to accelerate application development at scale.
