What is Citrix Universal Licensing?

Citrix Universal Licensing is a flexible licensing model that aims to enable customers to use and manage their Citrix products across different environments, such as on-premises, cloud, and hybrid deployments. It provides a simplified and consistent way to purchase, deploy, and manage Citrix licenses, regardless of the product or deployment type. With Citrix Universal Licensing, customers can optimize their license usage, reduce costs, and increase agility.

What are the latest Citrix Universal Licensing announcements?

The latest announcement related to Citrix Universal Licensing is the introduction of a new licensing model that enables customers to have a single license for running their on-premises subscription-based Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops deployments alongside Citrix Desktops as a Service (DaaS) environments without acquiring hybrid rights. With the new licensing model, customers no longer have to worry about purchasing expensive hybrid rights at the end of their DaaS subscription. This provides maximum flexibility for customers running environments on-premises, in public clouds, or hybrid. 

• Universal Subscription enables customers to use both IT-managed CVAD and Citrix DaaS Cloud services for the duration of their subscription.  
• Customers may run their Citrix Universal environments on-premises, in IT-managed “lift and shift” public cloud, private cloud, or use Citrix DaaS cloud services.  
• Citrix Universal replaces Citrix’s existing DaaS + Hybrid Rights Transition or Trade Up (TTU) offering.
• Once a customer completes a TTU to Universal Subscription, they can continue to renew without the need to purchase Hybrid Rights.  
• This offering has a minimum initial order quantity of 250 U/D or 100 CCU, which applies to both new subscriptions and TTU.  
• All new DaaS subscriptions will also have an initial minimum order quantity of 250 U/D or 100 CCU.  
• Existing DaaS and DaaS + Hybrid Rights Subscriptions can continue to expand and renew without the requirement for a minimum order quantity.  
• All available add-ons for existing DaaS offerings will be available for Universal Subscription SKUs. 

How is my organization impacted by Citrix Universal Licensing?

Organizations using Citrix products will be impacted by the new licensing model as it eliminates the need to purchase expensive extensions for hybrid rights for on-premises subscription-based Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops deployments after built-in Hybrid Rights with DaaS subscriptions end. Additionally, the new licensing model eliminates the need for customers to acquire hybrid rights, which provides greater flexibility for organizations that run environments on-premises, in public clouds, or hybrid.  Note effective April 17, 2023, all Citrix products will have an 8% price increase in all GEOs, Citrix is updating prices due to inflation and rising costs. Citrix will continue to honor existing active quotes, which have not been modified after the effective date of the change. After the effective date of the change, all new quotes and any changes to existing quotes will use the revised pricing.
